English: April 2-6

This week students will study flashback and foreshadowing, as well as characterization. They will use film as text and compare characters in film to characters in the novel Tangerine. Students will finish reading part one of Tangerine. There is no school Friday  because of the district’s Spring Holiday.

English: March 26-30

This week students are taking two days of the STAAR Writing test. On Monday, they will review test strategies and important objectives. At the end of the week, students will have a chance to catch up on missing assignments and complete extra credit. We will also explore common grammar errors.

English: March 19-23

This week students will read the next several chapters of Tangerine and compare/contrast character relationships. Later in the week they will prepare for STAAR Writing by identifying characteristics of exemplar writing and breaking down prompts.

English: March 5-9

This week students will read the novel Tangerine, and study flashback and foreshadowing. They will complete a reading assessment in order to prepare for STAAR Reading and show their understanding of reading objectives we have covered this year. Homework this week is to complete a parent/student reading survey, which should be returned Thursday/Friday according to student schedules. A reading log bookmark will go home over spring break and upon return students will hear about an online book log they may be using the rest of the year.

English: Feb. 27-March 2

Students will continue reading the novel Tangerine and explore choices characters make. They will be double-entry journaling throughout the week in order to develop their understanding of literary analysis.

English: Feb. 20-24

Students will begin Unit 3 this week. They will spend the first part of the week making predictions and previewing the novel Tangerine by Edward Bloor. Later in the week students will reflect on the choices characters make and begin the process of literary analysis through double-entry journals.

English: Feb. 6-10

Students will analyze expectations for the Embedded Assessment and complete the assignment: Making Revision Choices. Two days this weeks students will be taking district level assessments as practice for the STAAR writing test. Both will be a grade in English.

Social Studies Feb. 6-10

On Monday and Tuesday students are taking the chapter 12 exam.
I will also be assigning the government project on Friday.

English: Jan. 30-Feb. 3

This week students will continue learning revision strategies and practice revising for wordiness and correct verb forms. Students will begin to complete Embedded Assessment for Unit 4 at the end of the week. It will be due next week.

English: Jan. 23-27

This week will begin with students practicing timed writing and expository texts. Students will explore their SpringBoard textbook, and towards the end of the week students will identify different types of revision in order to practice revision strategies.
